City Planning Scale Models Dubai
District, township and phasing models for municipal authorities, master developers and planning consultants across the UAE.
City planning scale models UAE serve a different purpose from a developer's sales model. They are decision-making and consultation tools: used in authority reviews, public presentations, and stakeholder meetings where several parties need to understand a district, a phasing sequence, or the relationship between infrastructure and built form at a single glance.
ALCA Models builds planning models for municipal authorities, master developers and planning consultants across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE.
Types of planning model we build
- District and sector models showing an entire planning area in context
- Township and new community models covering residential, commercial and civic zones
- Zoning and land-use displays where colour or material distinguishes each designation
- Phasing models built in removable sections, so each stage of delivery can be shown separately
- Infrastructure and transport models showing road hierarchy, rail alignment and utility corridors
- Context models placing a proposed development within its surrounding fabric
Scale and size
Planning models almost always work at wider scales than building models, because the area covered is larger.
| Scale | Suits | Typical finished size |
|---|---|---|
| 1:500 | District or neighbourhood area | 2.0 m to 3.5 m |
| 1:1000 | Large sector or township | 2.5 m and above |
| 1:2000 | City-wide or regional planning area | 3.0 m and above |
Before we quote, we confirm the boundary of the area to be modelled and where the model will be displayed. A model built for a meeting room has different size limits from one built for a public exhibition hall.
Features for presentation and consultation
Planning models are often used in front of an audience, which changes how they are built.
- Removable sections so phases can be added or taken away during a presentation
- Interchangeable blocks where alternative proposals need to be compared
- Zoned colour coding to make land use readable from a distance
- LED lighting to highlight a specific phase, corridor or civic building
- Labelling and legend panels integrated into the base
- Transport cases where the model will travel between venues
Materials and construction
We combine SLA and SLS 3D printing for buildings and detailed elements with laser-cut acrylic and timber for terrain, roads and bases. Landscaping is applied by hand. For models that will be handled repeatedly or moved between venues, we specify more robust materials and a reinforced base than we would for a fixed display.
Programme
- Smaller district models: 4 to 6 weeks
- Large township or city models: 8 to 12 weeks
- Phased or interchangeable models: add 1 to 2 weeks for the mechanism
Planning projects frequently have a fixed committee or consultation date. Tell us that date at enquiry stage — it determines the whole programme, and we would rather plan around it than discover it late.
What we need to start
- Masterplan drawings in CAD, with the area boundary marked
- Topographic or level information if the terrain is not flat
- Building heights or massing data
- Zoning or land-use categories you want distinguished
- Display location and any size restriction
- The date of the presentation or committee meeting
Discuss a planning project
Send us the masterplan drawings, the area to be covered, and the date of your presentation. We will come back with the recommended scale, the finished size, a programme and a price.
Authority and public reviews
Models for consultation, not sales galleries. Several parties need to read a district or a phasing sequence at once.
Removable phases
Sections and interchangeable blocks so alternatives and delivery stages can be shown separately.
Zoning that reads at a distance
Colour, material and legend panels distinguish land use. Lighting can pick out a corridor or civic building.
Built to travel
Reinforced bases and transport cases when a model moves between venues, with reassembly if required.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, where it is designed for it. If you expect revisions, tell us at the start and we build the affected areas as removable sections rather than fixed.
Yes. Phasing is usually handled with removable blocks or interchangeable panels.
We build transport cases for models that will move, and we can manage the transport and reassembly.
Yes. Models for public exhibition are built more robustly and we can specify protective covers and a viewing height appropriate for the setting.
